Perfectly positioned at the crest of the Santa Monica Mountains, in the Saddle-Rock Malibu AVA, the vineyards are quite unique: The rocky terrain and steep south-facing slopes provide the perfect environment for growing premium wine grapes. Planting started in 1997 with 15 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, the hillside vineyards comprise approximately 70,000 vines on 70 acres with twelve varietals. Some varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, and more.

The Wine Hike: This tour is a guided hiking experience where guests can enjoy a beginner-level 2.5-mile loop around the beautiful Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu. During the hike, guests can expect to see expansive views, mighty natural rock formations, and the historic Cave of the Four Horsemen which holds Chumash Native American cave paintings. In addition, guests will be able to journey through the grapevines, take fun and memorable pictures at numerous photo opportunities present throughout the ranch, learn the history of the property, and learn about local flora and fauna from enthusiastic tour guides.
Shane Semler, founded Malibu Wine Hikes in 2015. Having grown up on the ranch, Shane had quickly developed a love for hiking the massive property and nearby trails. He would watch his mother, Lisa, enjoy hiking the property every day with their family dogs, and this gave him an idea.
Why not allow others to enjoy the gorgeous private property and find the same enjoyment in soaking up the fresh air, sunlight, and nature. The desire to share the beauty of the vineyard and Malibu wine country inspired his business, and thus, Malibu Wine Hikes was born, making it one of the most unique things to do in Malibu. For over 6 years, Shane has been sharing the beauty of the ranch through wine hikes. After a few years, his business expanded to include experiences in unique vehicles like side by side 4×4 tours and groovy Volkswagen wine bus tours.
