Artist Statement:
Inspired by New England's whaling past, this piece honors scrimshaw with sculpted clay whale teeth. It depicts Marblehead Harbor at night during the Harbor Illumination and fireworks, capturing the town's spirit in paint and honoring the town's maritime soul.
Artist Biography:
Pete Schalck studied at the Art Institute of Boston and Massachusetts College of Art, majoring in Communication Design. In 1996, he founded Flat Rock Creative in Marblehead. In 2022, Pete and his family opened Marblehead Mercantile, a shop featuring his original designs.
