This photograph is part of a project interweaving photography, video and fibre art. It revolves around Gervais’s late dog Tundra whose fur she collected over many years and after his passing spun it into dog wool that will become a fibre piece. Throughout this process, she has photographed and filmed the fur’s transformation and the things she saw and created with it, reflecting on its physical, emotional, and symbolic significance, exploring themes of love, loss and grief.

Cette photographie fait partie d'un projet qui mobilise photographie, vidéo et art textile. Celui-ci tourne autour de son défunt chien Tundra, dont elle a recueilli ses poils pendant de nombreuses années et qu'elle a filés après son décès, pour en faire de la laine qui deviendra une oeuvre en fibre. Tout au long de ce processus, elle a photographié et filmé la transformation de ses poils et les choses qu'elle a vues et créés avec ceux-ci, réfléchissant à leurs significations physiques, émotionnelles et symboliques, explorant les thèmes de l'amour, de la perte et du deuil. 

Item Special Note

Chantal Gervais is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist whose focus is on the body, representation, loss and memory. Her work has been exhibited in group and solo shows in Canada and abroad and she is currently doing a residency at Zocalo, Centre d'artistes en art imprimé in Longueuil (Quebec). Her photographs are in public and private collections including Global Affairs Canada and the Ottawa Art Gallery. Prestigious prizes include the Karsh Award (2014) and the Duke and Duchess of York Prize in Photography (2002).  
 
Chantal Gervais est une artiste multidisciplinaire primée qui s’intéresse au corps, à la représentation, à la perte et à la mémoire. Son travail a fait l'objet d'expositions collectives et individuelles au Canada et à l'étranger et elle est actuellement en résidence à Zocalo, Centre d’artiste en art imprimé de Longueuil (Québec). Ses photographies font partie de collections publiques et privées, notamment celles des Affaires mondiales Canada et de la Galerie d'art d'Ottawa. Prix prestigieux qu'elle a reçus incluent le Prix Karsh (2014) et le Prix du duc et de la duchesse d'York en photographie (2002).
