Item Description
"Quick Dress," Encaustic on panel, 12" x 12" x 2"
Francesca Azzara exhibits extensively throughout the tri-state area, including in museums across New Jersey and in galleries in New York City, as well as in Provincetown, MA, and Chicago.
She works with encaustic paint, pigmented beeswax tempered with hardened tree sap that is kept molten while painting. This medium pre-dates oil painting and allows the artist to layer, collage, scrape away and etch into the surface.
The encaustic surface is characterized by luminous and translucent layers of color. Highly durable and impervious to moisture it will not deteriorate, yellow, crack or darken with age.
Francesca has received numerous awards and she has been teaching encaustic techniques to painters and photographers for over 20 years.
