Item Description
Encaustic with thread and pastel
10" x 8" x .75"
Hilary Hanson Bruel is a Boston-area artist who resumed painting following a career in graphic design. She has exhibited her work at the AAM, Danforth Art Museum, Art Complex Museum, and Truro Center for the Arts, and she shows regularly at Gallery Twist. Hilary serves on the boards of the Needham and Newton Art Associations and is a member of NE Wax. She has a BA in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard University.
"On the Tide" is an invented seascape inspired by summers at the beach. Using only horizontal bands of varying widths and textures, including strands of thread strung across the surface of the painting, the artist challenges herself to create a real sense of space and distance, while also pushing the colors beyond the palette of the natural world.
